The Bellator 244 prelims have a new, surprising addition.
Yaroslav Amosov, who has the longest winning streak in the promotion, is slated to meet Mark Lemminger in a 175lbs catchweight bout at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, Connecticut. A Bellator official informed MMA Junkie of the news. This fight booking is slightly surprising as the Ukrainian headlined his last bout at Bellator 239 and has featured on the main card since his second contest in the organisation. The event, which takes place on August 21, will be the promotion’s third show back following their hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amosov (23-0) extended his Bellator record to 4-0 with a shutout unanimous decision win over Ed Ruth last time out. ‘Dynamo’ is a three time Sambo World Champion and the former Tech-Krep FC welterweight champion, also boasting an impressive eighteen finishes amongst his twenty three wins (eight TKO/KO’s ten submissions). He also holds victories over Roberto Soldic, Erick Silva and David Rickels.
Lemminger (11-1) won his Bellator debut at the promotion’s first post-Coronavirus show in July and comes into this one off the back of four straight wins. The American’s sole loss came at the hands of current UFC fighter, Jason Witt, in early 2018, and the 27-year-old will be hoping he’s the man to finally break Amosov’s sizeable winning streak.
Bellator 244 is expected to be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between champion Ryan Bader and challenger Vadim Nemkov.
