‘The Welsh Wrecking Machine’ is set to return and he’ll be looking to bounce back from a disappointing showing.
John Phillips has been booked to face Junyong Park in a middleweight fight at a UFC event on October 17, expected to take place on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The booking was confirmed on the UFC Europe Twitter page.
Phillips (22-10, 1NC) became the first victim of Khamzat Chimaev on UFC ‘Fight Island’, suffering a dominant second round loss. The Welshman has lost four of his last five bouts. However, sandwiched in-between this run was a performance of the night KO of Alen Amedovski in just seventeen seconds last September. Phillips has finished his opponent in every single one of his twenty-two professional wins (twenty KO/TKO’s and two submissions).
Park (11-4) returns to the octagon ten months after securing his first UFC win, claiming a unanimous decision win over Marc-Andre Barriault at UFC on ESPN+ 23. ‘The Iron Turtle’ is a former Yawara FC middleweight champion and has been victorious in eight of his last nine bouts, with Anthony Hernandez being the only man to prevent him from having his hand raised.
The UFC’s October 17 event is expected to be headlined by a crunch featherweight bout between Brian Ortega and ‘The Korean Zombie’.
