Another Dagestani lightweight has been confirmed for UFC 254.
Islam Makhachev is set to face the most notable opponent of his career so far when he squares off against former lightweight champion, Rafael Dos Anjos. The bout has been booked for UFC 254 which takes place on October 24. UFC 254 is expected to take place on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi but that has not been officially confirmed by the promotion. The fight news was first reported on BJ Penn.com.
Makhachev (18-1) has won his last six bouts following his sole career loss to Adriano Martins back in 2015. The 28 year old is a former Combat Sambo world champion, winning the title in 2016 at 74 kg’s and he trains with Khabib Nurmagomedov. Makhachev has finished ten of his eighteen wins (three TKO/KO’s and seven submissions).
Dos Anjos (29-13) returns to lightweight for the first time in four years following a 4-3 run in the welterweight division. The 35-year-old has lost four of his last five bouts, but has faced especially stiff competition in the form of Colby Covington, Kamaru Usman, Leon Edwards and Michael Chiesa, with his sole win during this run coming against Kevin Lee.
UFC 254 is scheduled to be headlined by the huge lightweight title unification bout between champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and interim belt holder, Justin Gaethje.
