Two fighters from Switzerland have joined the ARES FC roster.
Former Cage Warriors bantamweight title challenger, Marko Kovacevic, and recent Rizin competitor, Stephanie Egger, have been signed by the Afro-European promotion. Egger’s deal was confirmed on Monday evening by the ARES FC Twitter account whereas Kovacevic’s management team made the announcement on Twitter towards the end of July. The pair join a host of European talent who have recently been signed by the Vivendi-owned organisation including David Bear, Mickael Lebout and Karl Amoussou.
Kovacevic (12-3-1) has faced some of Europe’s best talent over his eight year professional career including Morgan Charriere and Brian Bouland. He was unsuccessful in his Cage Warriors bantamweight title shot against Nathaniel Wood in 2017 but two wins after that bout secured him a spot in the promotion’s one-night tournament to crown a new champion. ‘Agent 47’ defeated Josh Reed to make it to the final but he was stopped by heavy-hitting, Jack Cartwright, in the culmination of the bracket.
Egger (4-1) has only competed five times in as many years but has fought for some of the most notable organisation’s around the globe. She defeated Judith Ruis and Mara Romero Borella in her first two professional bouts but then suffered her first loss in Invicta FC. In her last outing, the featherweight overcame ‘King’ Reina by unanimous decision at Rizin 17 in July.
ARES FC haven’t currently announced their return to action following the COVID-19 pandemic and some have questioned how they are going to keep all of the talent they have contracted active. Another recent signee, Danilo Belluardo, told Euro MMA Hub that his deal allows him to take fights outside of the promotion so that may be the case for many of these athletes.
