The fifth and final championship contest has been announced for Cage Warriors’ ‘THE TRILOGY’ series in September.
Undefeated bantamweight champion, Jack Cartwright, is set to make the second defence of his title when he takes on Dutchman, Gerardo Fanny, at Cage Warriors 115. The European promotion announced the bout on Friday afternoon. Cage Warriors 115, which takes place on Friday September 25, will be the second consecutive night of fights inside Manchester’s BEC Arena.
Cartwright (8-0) entered the promotion as a relatively unknown underdog, despite an unblemished 5-0 record with as many first-round finishes to boot. If there was any doubt in people’s minds about the Bolton fighter’s prowess, Cartwright put that conversation to bed when he made quick work of Scott Malone and Marko Kovacevic en route to championship glory in the one-night tournament at Cage Warriors: Unplugged 2. The SBG Manchester athlete further solidified his champion status with a unanimous decision victory over Manuel Bilić at Cage Warriors 112, showing that he isn’t just a one-round fighter, besting Bilić over twenty-five minutes.
Fanny (9-1) comes into the bout off the back of a knockout win over Luiz Filho last October. He began his MMA career with an 8-fight win streak but a loss to Daan Duijs brought that run to an end and remains his only defeat to date. It is important to note that Fanny has only defeated opponents with winning records in three of his nine professional wins, so he hasn’t faced much stiff opposition up to this point in his career. That doesn’t dismiss him as talented fighter, but means his record should be treated with caution.
It will be a role reversal of sorts when the pair meet at Cage Warriors 115. Cartwright may have entered the promotion as an underdog, but it will be Fanny who faces his most formidable opponent to date. A win for Cartwright may see him UFC bound, whereas a Fanny victory would be a massive statement over a well-respected champion.
Cage Warriors 115 will be broadcast live on UFC Fight Pass.
