An all-Irish bantamweight matchup is set to take place at CW114, the first event of Cage Warriors’ ‘TRILOGY’ series on Thursday September 24. Euro MMA Hub confirmed with a promotion official that MMA Cork’s Jack Maguire will face Titans MMA’s Ciaran Mulholland at the behind closed doors event in the BEC Arena, Manchester.
Maguire (0-1) amassed an 11-4 amateur record, winning titles in Battle Zone FC, Akuma Fighting Championship, and Cage Legacy before progressing to the professional ranks. He made his pro debut in front of a boisterous Neptune Stadium crowd at Cage Warriors’ first show in Cork in November 2019. However, It wasn’t the dream hometown performance that Maguire would have wanted, losing a unanimous decision to England’s Manny Akpan (then 0-0) in their featherweight contest. Maguire was previously scheduled to fight Richard Kallos (2-1) on the Cage Warriors Birmingham card in April, but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Maguire drops down to the bantamweight division to face Mulholland.
Mulholland (0-1) had 21 amateur fights of his own before making his pro debut on the same card as Maguire at CW 110 in Cork. Mulholland acquired the Machine MMA, Akuma Fighting Championship, Cage Warriors Academy, Full Contact Contender flyweight titles before moving up a weight class. Similar to Maguire, it was an unsuccessful first night at the office for Mulholland. ‘The Dark Horse’ was submitted in the second round by undefeated Liverpudlian prospect, Nathan Fletcher (then 2-0).
Both Maguire and Mulholland will be looking to notch their first professional victory when Cork meets Belfast on September 24th. CW114 will be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass around the world.
