Timur Valiev has signed with the UFC and is expected to make his debut on an August Fight Night event.
The Russian prospect is slated to face Jamall Emmers at UFC Fight Night 173 on August 1, at the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas, according to a report from MMA Junkie. The two will compete in a featherweight bout at the promotion’s first event back on US soil following four events on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
Valiev (16-2) is a veteran of both the WSOF and the PFL, and also holds a variety of high-placing achievements in the grappling world. ‘The Lucky’ went 5-1 in WSOF, avenging his only loss to Chris Gutierrez and followed that up by winning his three fights with the PFL. Last year, he picked up two victories in GFC to extend his winning run to six.
Emmers (17-5) is looking to bounce back from a razor-thin split decision loss to Giga Chikadze in March and brings with him a wealth of experience from the regional scene. The 30-year-old has collected titles in both Hero FC and Smash Global, while also claiming a sizeable scalp by giving current top ranked bantamweight, Cory Sandhagen, his first professional loss. ‘Pretty boy’ was on a four-fight win streak prior to his last bout.
UFC Fight Night 173 is now set to be headlined by a middleweight clash between Edmen Shahbazyan and Derek Brunson, after the previous headliner, Holly Holm vs. Irene Aldana, fell out earlier this week.
