Merab Dvalishvili is set to get his first taste of ranked opposition at UFC’s next pay per view event.
The Georgian has been booked opposite John Dodson at UFC 252 on August 15 at the APEX facility in Las Vegas. MMA Junkie first reported the booking, as both men look to follow on from impressive performances in their last outings.
Dvalishvili (11-4) hasn’t let the onset of a global pandemic slow down his fight schedule, and finds himself in his third scheduled bout of the year. A February win over Casey Kenney earned the Georgian a step up in competition in the form of Ray Borg. However, after Borg pulled out, Dvalishvili dispatched of promotional newcomer Gustavo Lopez instead. The 29-year-old has won his last four contests all by decision and has forced himself into the #15 spot in the division.
Dodson (21-11) snapped a two fight losing streak by giving British prospect, Nathaniel Wood, his first UFC loss in February, and in the process, highlighted that he isn’t a gatekeeper in arguably the best weight class in the organisation currently. Dodson has fought the very best at both flyweight and bantamweight, including two failed attempts at Demetrious Johnson’s flyweight title.
Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier are expected to complete their trilogy in the main event of UFC 252 for the heavyweight title, and Junior Dos Santos faces Jairzinho Rozenstruik in the co-main event.
