A London-based Swede has inked terms with the UFC and is set to make his debut on short notice.
Aleksander Doskalchuk pulled out of his flyweight contest with Malcolm Gordon for reasons that are yet unknown, and the promotion have moved fast to sign Amir Albazi to face Gordon at UFC Fight Night 172 on July 18. MMA Junkie were the first to report the news and the UFC later confirmed the booking on their website.
Albazi (12-1) is one of the premier flyweight talents in Europe right now, and has began to deliver on this promise with a string of eye catching wins across a number of different organisations. A former UCMMA and FightStar bantamweight champion, ‘The Prince’ has since dropped down to 125 lbs where he has gone 3-1, earning two wins in Bellator while also suffering his first career loss to Jose Torres.
Gordon (12-3) is himself making his UFC debut following a highly successful regional career that saw him pick up titles in three different promotions across Canada and America. The 30 year old Canadian has had a string of bad luck with fights falling through recently, with the third defence of his TKO flyweight title being postponed after TKO president, Stephane Patry, suffered a health scare last October. After that, his BRAVE CF debut was postponed due to COVID-19 complications in March. Now finally returning to action after over a year on the side-lines, Gordon will be hoping to put all that behind him with a win on Saturday night.
UFC Fight Night 172 is expected to be headlined by a flyweight title rematch between Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo, with both men looking to get their hands on the vacant strap.
